Welcome to the Peter Cummings research group website. Professor Cummings is the John R. Hall Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Associate Dean For Research for the School of Engineering at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Peter also directs the Multicscale Modeling and Simulation (MuMS) group at Vanderbilt, an interdisciplinary research facility housing faculty from the School of Engineering. His research interests include statistical mechanics, molecular simulation, computational materials science, computational and theoretical nanoscience, and computational biology.
For twenty years (1994-2013), Peter Cummings was also associated with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He was one of four principal investigators who wrote the proposal to establish ORNL's Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences Division (CNMS), where he served as the Principal Scientist from 2007–2013. The CNMS is the first of five Department of Energy nanoscience centers, entering full-scale operations on October 1, 2005. Professor Cummings was the fouding director of the Nanomaterials Theory Institute, the theory program within the CNMS.
